Ernest “Calvin” Church
April 11, 1959 – March 14, 2024
Passed away suddenly at his home in Ottawa on March 14, 2024, just shy of his 65th birthday. Calvin was a world renowned pianist, organist, choral director and piano teacher who obtained his masters degree in Music at Rice University, Houston, Texas. He studied and was mentored by the great John Perry and the late Earle Moss. He continued his music education in a variety of manners, including by conducting courses with Doreen Rao in Canterbury, UK and workshops by Robert Shaw in New York. Calvin also spent decades as an organist and choir director with the United Church of Canada. His musical gift found him conducting orchestras and choruses, as well as performing numerous piano and organ concerts in Canada, the US, Bermuda, and Rome. Furthermore, Calvin was a private piano teacher and instructor for many students across Canada, the US and Bermuda.
Calvin will always be fondly remembered and admired for his vast talents, as well as his gentle manner and sense of humour. Loving son of Christena and the late Sheldon Church. Dear brother of the late Wade Church, Evans (Michelle) and Kelly (Jodi) Church. Uncle of Jordan, Josh, Caitlin (Andrew Korschefsky), Adam and Ben Church. Fondly remembered by many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins. Special thank you to Mike and the entire Dialysis team at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for the unwavering support and care.
