It is with great sadness that the family of Ulo Mihkelson announce his passing on the 2nd of December, 2023, at the age of 73, surrounded by his family at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Ulo will be missed by his beloved wife Carla, who he was married to for 44 years. He is loved by his children Gregory (Jenna), Ryan (Tara) and Elyse (Patrick). Devoted grandfather of Kai, Anna, Quinn, Avery and Palmer. He will be dearly missed by his siblings Susanne (Scott), Ed (Jane), Malle (Jaime) and Mart (Tanya). Remembered lovingly by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Heino and Vilma.
Ulo was born on the 5th of October 1950 in Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden. Ulo’s parents immigrated to Toronto in 1951 where Ulo lived on Lamb Ave. and then later attended Monarch Park High school. Upon graduation, Ulo worked for a while and then decided to attend Ryerson and pursue a career in computer programming. While attending Ryerson, Ulo worked the summers at Canada Dry and it was here in 1977 that Ulo met Carla, the love of his life. Ulo started his career the following year as a computer programmer at Foresters. Through his leadership and hard work ethic, Ulo worked all the way up the ranks to Vice President before retirement.
Ulo and Carla were married in 1979 and bought their first house in Scarborough. It was here that all three children were born. Ulo’s family was everything to him, with endless love and support to his wife and children. Ulo and family spent their years at kids’ sporting events, cottages, and on summer family trips. As of late, Ulo was adored by his five grandchildren and he would drop everything in a moment’s notice to be with them.
Ulo’s family would like to thank the Peterborough Regional Health Centre ICU staff for their care and support through his final days.
A celebration of life will be held at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, Thursday December 7, 2023 at 12:00pm, followed by a reception. Donations can be made to the the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
