Murray Pearson Obituary
PEARSON, Murray
Murray Aden Pearson passed away January 1, 2024, in his 78th year following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. A loving husband, father, and Papa, he will be greatly missed by wife Margaret, sons Graham (Shobini) and Matthew (Alison), and grandchildren Dashiel and Hadley.
Murray was never happier than when spending time with family, whether it was on family road trips, teaching home DIY skills, or sitting around the table listening to the adventures that would not have been possible without his continuous, patient support. He and Margaret were a constant team for over 50 years, touring galleries, exploring the hidden gems and arts communities across the country, and taking care of their beautiful home. Murray was always enormously grateful for her love and care, particularly through the challenges of his recent years.
Murray spent his life in Peterborough. Son of Harry and Muriel, he was always closely connected with siblings Grant (Sandra), Larry (Sharon), Leslie, and Pat (Rick) along with his many nieces and nephews. He spent his career with the Peterborough County Board of Education as teacher, vice-principal, and principal, eventually retiring as Superintendent of the expanded Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. He was passionate about supporting the youth of the community to receive the best possible education, and worked extremely hard to ensure children had access to programs and resources that would provide them with opportunities in life. Teachers, principals and staff members appreciated Murray for his support and his desire to promote excellence in all aspects of education.
In his personal life, Murray was an avid gardener and handyman. He was greatly connected to the Kawarthas, spending many happy times exploring local wildlife as well as fishing and duck hunting. He was a talented nature artist whose birds and decoys won awards at both the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship and the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving championships. He was a two time Ducks Unlimited Artist of the year In Peterborough where he donated carvings to promote conservation projects.
Murray’s final years were spent at Saint Joseph’s at Fleming Long Term Care residence. His family will be eternally grateful for the kind and generous care he received there.
Donations in Murray’s memory can be made to the St. Joseph’s at Fleming Foundation and Parkinson Canada.
