Obituary
Ken died on September 30, 2023 at Fairhaven at 90 years of age. He had many health challenges over the years but was fortunate to live a long, productive and happy life. Sadly the last years of his life were affected by Lewy Body Dementia, a devastating brain disorder which ultimately took him from us.
Ken was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Marianne. Forever cherished by sons Christopher and Mark. Greatly missed by nieces Cynthia, Darleen, and Stephanie. Ken was predeceased in death by his parents George and Eliza (nee King), his sister Mazie and brother Curtis (Bud).
Ken was born in Toronto and attended the University Of Toronto graduating in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he joined General Electric and his career there lasted 40 years. He was a Specialist – Hydro Generators, International Sales, and traveled extensively with his job to many countries. In this capacity he spent a great deal of time in Venezuela and China where GE Hydro obtained large orders for generator installations. Ken had a keen interest in languages, having studied various ones in school, but focused on Spanish which he used in his career, especially his work in Venezuela. After retirement he enjoyed cruising and touring with his wife Marianne. He never tired of traveling and learning new things.
Ken was quiet, thoughtful, kind and humble. He was a stickler for the proper use of English but with his wry sense of humour he stretched, inverted and twisted words using them in ways that were never intended to the delight of all who knew him. He was enthusiastic about sports and volunteered as coach or administrator for many of his sons’ soccer, baseball and hockey teams when he was available.
We thank the doctors, nurses and staff for their professional kindness and care during the final difficult days of his life. He is now at peace.
