Dave (David Edward) Ginter of Ennismore
Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Winnie Norman. Cherished father to Drew Ginter (Melanie Buddle), Brendan Ginter (Vanessa Nelson), Dana Crane (Chris) and Lindsay Norman (David Coseni). Loving grandpa to Austin, Taren, Cameron, Lauren and Madelyn. Dear brother of Anne, George, Leona, Doris (Bob), Al (Marg) and Henry. Predeceased by his siblings Tena, Alma, Jake, Bill and John, and by his parents Henry and Tena Ginter. Dave will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews & friends.
Dave was an extra special person in the lives of Lindsay and Austin as he represented what a father really looks like.
Dave came from a family of 12 children raised near Carrot River in northern Saskatchewan. He left the farm as a teenager and hitchhiked east, ending up in Ontario. Dave moved through a variety of careers in the 1960s and 1970s, searching for the right opportunity in the Durham region. He also became a father to Drew, Brendan and Dana. He found his calling in real estate in 1973. Dave was one of the earliest RE/MAX brokers in Ontario. He opened RE/MAX Summit Realty in Whitby, and subsequently sold the firm to focus on full-time sales. Dave was known for industrial sales and leasing, and there was a large area of Whitby referred to by his colleagues as “Ginterville” since it always had numerous signs of Dave’s present. Dave was fondly referred to as a “pioneer” at RE/MAX. He retired in 2023 just shy of 50 years in real estate.
Dave met his wife Winnie in 1981. They moved to their Ennismore “cottage” in 1996. Winnie joined the Bridgenorth RE/MAX office at that time while Dave continued to commute to Whitby until 2004 when he joined the local office.
While real estate continued to be a passion, Dave was happiest at their Buckhorn Lake home. His wish was to never have to move from the lake and thankfully that came to fruition. In Ennismore, he continued some favourite hobbies: curling was a passion for over 25 years, and Dave was a long-time member of the Ennismore Curling club. Dave was also a keen creator of many homegrown “inventions” involving chainsaws, ropes and pullies, old fire hoses, and more. While the inventions were creative, safety was not his first priority and many of his machines led to mishaps; Dave’s kids remember they always needed to have band-aids ready when dad needed help with a project. Putting in the dock was an annual tradition with annual injuries.
Dave volunteered over the years with Community Care Chemung, supporting Meals on Wheels and driving patients to and from the Durham region for medical appointments. Dave’s sons also recall his volunteer role as a (frustrated) hockey coach; his sons failed to launch successful hockey careers despite his efforts.
Dave deeply loved his life on the lake with Winnie and he could usually be found on the deck taking in the view and watching birds, boats, and fishermen. He loved spending time with his family, particularly when his children and grandchildren came out to visit and go for a boat ride or tubing “adventure.” Dave also loved watching the Blue Jays (both the birds and the team). He was meticulous about his lawn, and he loved a good garage sale, bringing many items home to help him with his inventions. His favourite lunch option was always a Chinese food buffet. Dave will be remembered as a caring and kind neighbour and community member and he will be deeply missed by his family, his community and his friends.
Aquamation has taken place.
In Dave’s memory donations may be made to Community Care Chemung through Community Alternative.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Sunday, April 14th from 1:00-4:00 pm at Jesse’s Tap & Grill, 583 Robinson Road, Ennismore.
