It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Alfred Walter Schwartzel on November 27, 2023, surrounded by wife Wendy and children Mark and Lesley. He was father-in law to Tamsyn and Dale, Papa to Cody (Mikayla), Timothy, Samantha, Taylor, Keelin, Owen and Great-Papa to Hudson. Charles was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 3, 1948. He was the 2nd of 4 boys and son to Arthur and Yvonne Schwartzel.
Charles met Wendy at a disco club, and it wasn’t long before they married in 1973. Charles was a devoted husband who loved his wife dearly and always showed his love by making her morning tea.
In the summer 1987, Charles and Wendy took a leap of faith and of immigrated to Canada.
Charles had a successful career in the automotive and gas industry, finally retiring in 2011.
Charles was “Mr. Fix-it”! There was nothing he couldn’t fix, and he never gave up. He was a role model to his family, and we all wanted to make him proud. Charles worked hard in life and enjoyed his retirement at their property on Stoney Lake. Charles and Wendy spent their days renovating their home and enjoying their garden. You could always get Charles to sit at the end of the day when you offered him a beer, but not until the task was complete!
Anyone who knew Charles, knew his 3 greatest joys in life were grandchildren, golf, and gardening. Charles was an avid golfer who loved spending time at Wildfire. When he wasn’t on the golf course, he was watching YouTube videos on how to perfect his swing and driving Wendy crazy practicing them in the hallway. Charles was a family man through-and-through and loved having his family around. He enjoyed spending time teaching his grandchildren the tricks of the trade when it came oil changes and changing over the tires. He also loved teaching all the babies how to drive the tractor and cut the lawn. He was an avid sports fan of soccer, cricket, and rugby and loved watching the grandchildren play hockey and soccer.
You will be Forever in our hearts and the memory of you will be shared for all the years to come.
