YOUNG, Edward “Ned” – Passed away unexpectedly at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the age of 73 years.
Ned Young of Pembroke, beloved husband to Lynn Young (nee Landry). Much loved dad to Cheryl (Steve) and Christine (Chris). Cherished grandfather to Kennedy. Ned is survived by his siblings Kim (Chris), Elizabeth (Gary), Bert and David. He was predeceased by his siblings Ernie and Michael. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Zach, Jake, Josh, Apryl, Kaelyn and Adrian. Ned was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Janet Young (nee Kennedy).
Ned was born in Belfast Northern Ireland and at the age of 15, moved to Canada, much to his chagrin with his parents and siblings. It was in Canada where he learned the printing trade and became a legend in Scarborough. He then met Lynn (Mum) who tried her best to settle him down, and after many, many tries, finally managed to by having two beautiful daughters. He loved his two girls with all of his heart and protected them fiercely. They always felt loved and proud to have him as their dad.
Ned loved to fish, spending hours on the boat. Many of us have funny and dangerous stories about our fishing adventures with him. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening, hobbies he learned from his father, and he excelled at them. Ned did have some health challenges, surviving Viral Encephalitis, Hepatitis and 2 heart attacks. Family was extremely important, and it was often commented on how close the family was by others. Ned will forever be remembered as a loyal man who would give you the shirt off his back (as long as you were on his good side, heaven help you if you weren’t).
Respecting Ned’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew Street, Pembroke, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In memory of Ned, donations made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated.
