With heavy hearts and loving memories, we celebrate Robert (Bob) Lockwood getting his wings on Sunday August 25th 2024. Bob was born and raised in Ancaster, Ontario and spent most of his adult life in western Canada and on the Gulf of Nicoya in Costa Rica.
He was the first born to Robert and Jane Lockwood, first grandchild to Charles and Ruth Dalley, one of many grandchildren to Robert and Vera Lockwood, older brother to both Kelly and Bill (Heidi) and a cherished loved one and friend to many. He lived life large, full of character and compassion for both his Canadian and Costa Rican families.
Bob’s life was changed forever in 2014 after enduring a catastrophic stroke while visiting family in Canada. His recovery was hard. However his spirit, determination and love for life did not waver. Family, friends and caregivers have complete admiration for his strength, resilience, courage, kindness and of course, his support for the cannabis industry.
His nickname was Garfield. The fictional, comic strip orange tabby cat was known for his mañana mentality, ear to ear smile, kind teddy bear eyes, orange hair, love for food, choice of women and nine lives. Garfield the cat was first published in 1978, the same year Bob graduated from high school and embarked upon his formative adult life path. The resemblances are profound. There are countless bestselling Garfield books and movies, and as such, Bob’s life stories and adventures have motion picture potential. But like all great movies, endings are inevitable and heartfelt.
Bob, you are now free in body and spirit to soar with the eagles and dance with the angels. Rumor has it, you are already ‘getting the party started’ and your laughter can be heard throughout the heavens.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to friends and loved ones that have supported Bob on his journey: Dr. Phebe Gray and the staff at the Georgian Bay unit of Lakeland Long Term Care for their compassion, care and acceptance of Bob’s needs, and Dr. Daniel Moquin and his colleagues for putting together Bob’s end of life story. Cremation was entrusted to Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St., Parry Sound). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 31st 2024, at the cottage on Whitestone Lake.
Love you and miss you forever and always, until we meet again.
