It is with broken hearts and loving memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Neil Bates, in his 81st year, on September 17, 2024 at The West Parry Sound Health Center.
Beloved husband of the late Anne Bates (Madill). Loving father of Nicole Pullbrook and Jill Spurr and his son-in-laws Mike and Tyler. Cherished Papa to Cameryn, Lily, Noa and Quinn. Brother of Brian (predeceased), Simon, and Ian. Special Uncle to many, and loving friend of Ann Moore.
Neil was born and raised on the farm in the Shelburne area by his loving parents Claude and Eleanor. He and Anne proudly raised their daughters in Innisfil, and enjoyed many years at the family cottage in Parry Sound.
After 25 + years as a diesel engine mechanic with Beamish Construction, he could no longer resist the quiet call of lake life. They built their dream home on Scott Lake, and started a small business in the area. After which he also worked for Georgian Bay Propane.
Neil was a true Jack-of-all-trades and there wasn’t an engine that he couldn’t fix or modify. He was a man you could count on for help, to share a cold beer and conversation with in his garage, and always rely on.
He was kind, hardworking and a great friend to many. Neil could never resist a great deal, garage sale or lucky dump find!
He will be forever missed and never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations to The West Parry Sound Health Center, in Neil’s memory, would be appreciated.
