Tom was born in Toronto on February 12, 1947 to the late John Thomas West and Helen Elizabeth (Betty} nee Tucker. He passed away on Saturday, May 11,2024, with family by his side.
He graduated from York University with a Masters degree in History. Working with Heritage Canada, Curator of Canada Sports Hall of Fame in Toronto, Director of the Canadian Olympic Museum in Calgary; Director of the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan.
Later this month Tom will be honoured at the Canadian Association Sports Heritage Awards evening being held in Parry Sound, Ontario.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Diane Darlington; son Michael, daughter Amanda. Sister Patricia Butler and brother Philip West (Eva), sister-in-law Helen Ford (Dieter Spillner) and brother-in-law Don Darlington, along with nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Lindsay, Jonathan, Jennifer, Kevin, Veronica, Christina, Jessica, Timothy and Robert along with their wonderful children.
He was predeceased by his sister Ann, his first wife Linda and sister-in-law Muriel Darlington.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St., Parry Sound) on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 1:30 – 2:30 PM. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada and the Palliative care unit at Parry Sound Health Centre.
