December 02, 2023
With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dad, Harvey James Clare at his home, in the Municipality of McDougall, on December 2nd 2023. Born in 1940, at Parry Sound, Ontario, he was 83 years old.
Loving husband of Sharon (Jacklin). Married for 18 years, they were active members of the McDougall/Parry Sound community. Sharon and Harvey started every morning with 2-3 games of Skip-Bo over coffee. Sharon would lovingly read daily to Harvey from the local paper, Readers Digest or books that he loved, as his eyesight was waning. Over the years they shared outings to the Senior’s Centre to enjoy music that dad enjoyed and share a game of cards with friends. A visit to their home would come with an offer of a muffin that dad had baked that morning.
Harvey was the second child of Minot and Bertha (MacFarlane). He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joan (Bob) McDonald, and his brother Gord (Ann). He is survived by his sister Mary (Don) Brown and his brother Patrick (Luci).
Harvey married his first wife Mary Elizabeth Humphreys (Betty, d 2013) on September 16th, 1960 and together they raised a family in Stewarttown. Beloved father of Jamie of Parry Sound, John (Rosa) of Brampton and Joe (Barb) of Georgetown. Loved, cherished and proud Papa to Jennifer, Stefanie, Liam, Reece and Ayden.
Dad loved to give unique Christmas and Birthday gifts such as books and handmade games or puzzles. Many times, these gifts were made by Dad. Annually one would receive a Christmas letter carried by a team of sled dogs during the Seguin Ontario Sled Dog Mail Run. Legend has it that he even mailed a letter written on birch bark that was delivered to a friend. He loved “off the beaten path” places or sites and the backroads were the only way to get there. One of his favourite places was the small bush property “O’er the tracks, by the Boyne” where stood an old cabin built by the family in the early 1950’s. Friendships were made and kept up, from all across Canada, to the hills of Kentucky.
Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
TOOT-A-LOO Dad.
