It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glen
William Parr (86) of Parry Sound on Aug 28 at West Parry
Sound Health Centre. Glen fought a courageous battle with
cancer and although his mind was sharp until the end, the
cancer took its toll.
Glen leaves behind his wife Maureen of 56 years, sons Darren
(Ruth), Colin (Catharine), daughter Ann Parr (Nick), brother
Mickie Parr (Susan) and sister Betty Ann Collison
(predeceased by his brother-in-law Gord Collison). His four
grandchildren, Maddy, Ellie, Lauren and Cameron held a
special place in his heart. He spent many hours running Sea
Doo and ATV camps, taking them fishing and playing cards. He
also had many beloved granddogs.
As a third generation commercial fisherman his love for the
eastern shores of Georgian Bay was unparalleled. He often
spoke of his fond memories of summers growing up on the
Mink Islands fishing, swimming and rowing with his siblings and
cousins. He spent years researching and trying to locate the
shipwreck Asia and until recently could be found exploring the
islands and bays on his Sea Doo. One of his last requests was
that friends and family raise a drink for him whenever they pass
the Mink Islands.
A special thank you to the health care providers, particularly
West Parry Sound Health Centre and Care Partners nurses
that went above and beyond with excellent care and
compassion that gave him the quality of life these past few
years.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday September 20th, 2024 at 2:00 PM
at Torrance Funeral Home in Parry Sound. As per Glen’s
wishes casual attire and fond memories are requested. In lieu
of flowers, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre or
a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
