October 10, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of David Absolon announce his passing at Hospice Waterloo, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at the tender age of 91 years.
Pre-deceased by his wife of 64 years, Jennie. Loving father of Debbie Welch (Bruce); Mark Absolon (Leilani); Jo-Anne Absolon; Kathy Absolon; Chrissy Hauck; and adopted daughter Faye Bradt (Robert). Dear grandfather of Charlie Welch; Kelly Welch; Lori Rideout (Craig); Jeremiah Varga; Jessica Varga (Brett); Jackson Absolon; Amanda Thompson (Healy); Akiesha Chambers (Jeff); Cody Absolon-Winchester; Derek Hauck; and Brittany Paul (Jeff). Great grandfather of Vicky, Nattie, Logan, Alex, Janessa, Tyson, Kaiden, Everleigh, Kennedy, Georgia, Preston, Ellis, Auggie, Summer Niibin Ode, and Chloe. Dear brother of the late Barbara, Mary, and Jenny. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
David was a British ‘chappy’ with a cockney accent. He immigrated to Canada from England in his early twenties and met Jennie at a Veteran’s dance in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1956. They married in 1957 and together raised their 5 children He worked for the CNR for many years as a Signal Maintainer/Electrician. They lived most of their life in Cranberry Lake (near Grundy Lake Prov. Park) and retired in Britt, ON. David was a Veteran, Past President, and member of Britt Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 591 for 57 years. He and Jennie enjoyed attending events at the Legion and enjoyed dances back in the day! He loved his quiet time reading and listening to music. Later in life he loved watching movies. In his younger days, many would describe him as an outdoors man because David loved camping, hunting, and fishing. He could also often be found puttering around out back in his shed. He was a ‘Mr. Fix-it’ and a “Jack of all trades”. He loved his family and missed Jennie deeply after she passed. While this is a sad time of loss for the family, David is now dancing with his beloved Jennie again. David was full of sayings like ‘Always save a penny for a rainy day’, ‘Don’t take any wooden nickels from strangers’, and ‘It’s all water under the bridge now’. These somewhat reflect his steadfast attitude about life. He worked very hard and was a good provider for his family. He and Jennie travelled through life enduring challenges, hardships, and good times. His spirit carries a lifetime of rich memories. His legacy spans over 4 generations and will live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of David’s life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 591, Britt, at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 19th, 2024.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Hospice Waterloo would be appreciated.
