Dan Wheatley
‘Koos’
Daniel Sylvester Wheatley passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on Friday, February 16th, 2024. Age 75 years.
Beloved husband of the late Judy Wheatley. Loving father of Brent Darnell Wheatley (Barb), Darren Wheatley, Danson Lee Rice (Beatrice), and the late Daniel Brian Wheatley. Dear grandfather of Myles, Dayson, Adrienna, Danis, and Andrew. Loving son of the late Ted Wheatley and Sarah (Eagle) Wheatley. Dear brother of the late Lloyd Wheatley, Carleen Partridge, Margaret ‘Pat’ Denning, and Doreen Wheatley. Fondly remembered by his cousin Shane, who dedicated his time to take care of Dan in his final years. Dearly remembered by his best friend Deanna (Killer) Desjarlais, and Delta Desjarlais. Fondly remembered by his cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Dan was proud to be an Anishnaabe Nini for Wasauksing First Nation – he was a fluent Anishnabeewawin speaker. Dan was a beloved Elder in the community and was known for being respectful, and a kind friend to everyone. Dan worked in the construction industry, but he was also an activist for all people, and wore his identity proudly! He loved his dogs: Tuffi, Toby, Susie, Otto, and B.J. Dan enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, and also trolling for fish in his boat; he loved the water and his ‘giimaan’! Dan was very familiar with the waters around Wasauksing and took many people out camping in the pristine beaches and coves in the area.
Resting at the family home, where friends will be received from the afternoon on Saturday, February 17th, until the afternoon on Tuesday, February 20th.
Cremation to follow.
