It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michel “Mike” Robert Côté on October 21st, 2024. Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep, just days after celebrating his 60th birthday.
Mike was known for his playful spirit, sharp wit, and generous heart. A natural jokester, he was always ready with a clever remark or a friendly jab that could make anyone laugh. Mike had a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories, whether over Sunday breakfasts with family or by finding humor in unexpected situations—like teasing his sister Karen about switching tax preparers, much to her dismay.
Born in Loretteville, Quebec and raised in Ottawa, Mike was the second of 5 siblings. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved and built deep connections with family and friends. Beyond his love for Formula 1—particularly his favorite driver, Max Verstappen—Mike had a knack for bringing laughter into every space he entered, always eager to “spill the tea” about the latest family news or stories from his life.
Throughout his life, Mike courageously navigated the challenges of bipolar disorder. Despite difficult times—including multiple hospital stays and a transition to living in a group home—Mike never lost his spark. Thanks to the devoted care of his sister Karen and the support of his family, he returned to the vibrant, humorous, and loving person they all cherished.
Mike lived life on his own terms, without regret or complaint. He taught those around him the value of resilience, humor, and authenticity. His ability to face life’s challenges with grace will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his parents Gilbert and Judith Côté, his sisters Anne, Karen and Sue, his brother Gil, sister-in-law Andrea, brothers-in-law Rick, Pierre and Dave, his nieces Rebecca, Kirsten, Lilianna and Elisha, nephews Nicholas, Phillip, Cameron, Martin and Ryan, and many friends. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Family and friends are invited at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd, Orléans, ON, K4A 3P7 on Saturday November 9th, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association – cmha.ca/, in honor of Mike’s memory.
Rest easy, Mike. We will carry you in our hearts, always.
