We celebrate the life of our dear mother, Joyce Kathleen Bradley (née Widenmaier), who departed this world peacefully on July 23, 2024. Born in Perth, Ontario March 18th, 1929; Joyce lived a long and fulfilled life.
Mom always expressed her fortune at having found the love of her life (our late father) Lorne Bradley. He was her partner on the dance floor, her traveling companion, and her sidekick in the household and community. Her gratitude, pride, unwavering support and love for her four daughters, Joy, Lorna, Wendy and Kathleen, taught us the true meaning of love and kindness. Spouses were always welcomed with a warm smile and an open heart. She lead our family through her selfless actions, always putting our happiness and well-being ahead of her own.
Joyce cherished her six grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew, Daniel, Katie, Michael and Andrew adding to the countless ways she showed her love. A request from a grandchild, whether it was for help in school, baking, chauffeuring, rocking, or reading took precedence over all else. Eleven great-grandchildren; Isla, Penny, Jamison, Lucy, Brooklyn, Charlie, Elodie, Beckett, Pearson, Layla and Landon, were blessed to have her rock and sing to them.
Joyce was grateful for and proud of her relationship with her brothers, Jack, William, Robert and the late Kenneth (Teddy). Their sibling friendship was unique, warm, supportive – one to model. They were friends first, siblings second.
Mom’s kitchen was her kingdom. It was also where we all gathered to eat, laugh, and build wonderful memories, learn school lessons and get life advice. There was always comfort food, endless homemade treats and cups of tea. No one ever left her home hungry.
Joyce loved all children and felt blessed to find her profession teaching elementary children. She guided each student with wisdom and grace, individually challenging their strengths and encouraging them in their weaknesses.
Our home was always filled with music, singing, playing instruments, and dancing (all of which were compulsory at any family event or gathering). Mom was our piano tutor, and she led the choir at school, church, Sunday school and J.A. camps.
When Lorne passed, Joyce assumed the role of President of M.L. Bradley Ltd. school bus company. She quickly learned of the business world, but more importantly, fostered a positive relationship with employees. In her unique way, she ensured each person felt special.
Joyce’s commitment to the community through St. Mary’s Anglican Church, the Navan Women’s Institute, Navan Curling Club, and ACW (to name a few), has left a lasting impact on the town. Additionally, supporting Dad in all of his community fundraising activities through the community and Lions Club showcased her unwavering dedication to our family and community.
Joyce’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. She leaves behind a family who adored her and will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on August 12th at 1:30 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Navan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The May Court Hospice or The CHEO Foundation.
We invite all who knew and loved Joyce to join us in remembering and honoring her remarkable life.
Joyce loved dearly and will always be dearly loved.
