Jack Alexander Obituary
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Jack Gilmore Alexander, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who peacefully passed away at the age of 81 on November 8, 2024 after a brief illness.
Born April 1, 1943 in Stratford, Ontario, Jack was the son of Gertrude Mae (Freer) and John Alexander. He served 26 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a military firefighter rising up the ranks before retiring in 1988 as Deputy Fire Marshall for TSHQ at CFB Trenton, Ontario. Following his military service, he worked as a Fire Prevention Officer and in Property Management at the University of Toronto.
In 2003, he took early retirement to fulfill a life long dream of living “in the country”. For the last 20 years, Jack enjoyed living on his rural property in Frontenac County, Ontario pursuing his hobbies including woodworking, photography, tending to his many vegetable gardens and producing maple syrup.
Jack leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia, his daughters Andrea, Suzanne (Paul) and Jennifer (Dave) as well as his grandchildren, Matthew, Marissa, Victoria, Mitchel, Jacob and Sonia. Special brother to Sharon and loving great uncle to Avery, Jack will also be remembered by his sisters Lorraine, Pauline and Lindy, along with many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents, his sister, Delores and his faithful furry companions, Tucker, Sammy and Kayto.
Special thanks to Sharon Green and Gord & Heather Garey for all of their support during Jack’s illness, and thank you to the Critical Care & Palliative Care doctors, nurses, and PSWs at Lennox & Addington County General Hospital in Napanee, Ontario for their care and compassion.
Jack will be cremated and a celebration of his life will occur on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Arrangements under the care of Milestone Funeral Center in Northbrook, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory can be made to the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton, Ontario or to the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital Foundation in Napanee.
“Grief never ends, but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love.” – Elizabeth I
