Darrell Thompson Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Darrell Ellery Thompson on December 11, 2024. Darrell was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a very rare brain disorder, in 2020 and has fought a valiant fight against the harshness of this disease ever since.
Darrell was born January 23, 1959 in Belleville. He was predeceased by his Father Ellery (Fern) and Mother, May.
Darrell was a Northbrook boy through and through. He loved living North of 7, which he had done his entire life except for a brief period of time when he lived in Brockville & Calgary. He was so happy to be moving back to his favourite, Skootamatta Lake, in 1993 with his wife, Wendy, daughter, Brittany and son Ryan. He loved going for boat rides on the lake, was an excellent water skier and enjoyed taking anyone for a ski or tube ride. He enjoyed spending time with his family & friends on the lake. His friends “on the point” meant the world to him and there were very few weekends he wasn’t hanging out with the boys completing a project of some type. Darrell was a successful contractor who worked hard for his beloved Kaladar Northern Construction. He assumed responsibility of KN in 1989 from his parents who originally operated Kaladar Northern Communications, the telephone company that covered from Kaladar north. He learned to operate heavy equipment on the runway in Northbrook when he was too small to reach the gas pedal and he passed along his love of equipment to Ryan and his love of family to Brittany.
Without our family & friends, we never could have walked this journey and we thank you all.
Darrell is survived by his wife Wendy, Daughter Brittany (Matthew), Son Ryan, Sisters Dawn Boulianne (Doug), Allison Yearwood (Bob), Sister-In-Law Kathy Rasmussens (Chris), Poppy to Lennon & Tate, his nieces Danielle, Stacey, & Kelly nephews Michael, Daniel, & Kale and BC (Back of Cloyne) brothers.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Milestone Funeral Center, Northbrook. Visitation will be held at Land O’ Lakes Emmanuel United Church, Northbrook on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Church on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00.
Memorial donations made in Darrell’s memory to the Land O’ Lakes Emmanuel United Church, or to Lennox & Addington Emergency Services, Northbrook would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences, photos and memories can be shared at www.milestonefuneralcenter.com.
