CHAGNON, Muriel Jean – on December 5th, at home with her four children close by, our queen of hearts left this earth. In her 98th year, our beloved Mom left us to join our Dad, the late Robert Chagnon. Jean leaves behind her son David and daughters Barbara Eley (the late Jeff), Maggie Cole and Valerie Fitzgerald (Thane). She will be remembered as the best Nana ever by her grandchildren Sarah (Mike), Chris (Kelly), Cameron (Erin), Kevin (Danielle), Gordon (Lindsay), Kate (Dan) and Brad (Serena). Predeceased by her husband, Bob, her adored grandson “sweet” Robbie, and all her siblings. Nana Jean (or Nana-Nana) will be fondly remembered by many great-grandchildren, friends, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended and blended family.
Jean was born in Hamilton in 1926, the second oldest of seven children. She married her high school sweetheart Bob in 1947 and moved to Niagara Falls for Bob’s teaching career a few years later. Being a wife, mother and raising her children was Jean’s priority. She was wise, compassionate and totally devoted to family and community. As her children grew, Jean again joined the workforce, found great satisfaction and made significant contributions in her roll at Information Niagara for many years. She and Bob were active members of Stamford Lane United Church for over 60 years.
Jean will be remembered for her quiet kindness, ever positive support, gentle manner and never ending love for her family.
A small family service will be held shortly. A celebration of Jean and Bob’s lives is planned for the spring. The family would like to thank Olivia and Maninder for the kind, professional and compassionate way they helped care for our Mother.
