KENMIR, Marietta Ruth “Ruthie”
It is with deep sadness that the family of Ruth Kenmir announces her peaceful passing at Henley House in St. Catharines on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at the age of 88.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Alan Kenmir (1999), her soulmate of 44 years. Together, Ruthie and Alan built a loving family, cherished lifelong friendships, and shared a bond that weathered all challenges. Ruth’s devotion to Alan shone brightest after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a time she navigated with unwavering love and grace, and always seeing the silver lining in every cloud. She missed him deeply every day after his passing.
Ruth was the proud and supportive mother of Brian Kenmir (Nancy), Audrey Kenmir (Robert), and Alison Kenmir DiLalla (Bryden). She was a doting grandmother to Jeffrey, Jenny, Caitlin, Maggie, Connor, and Alexa, and great-grandmother to Alfie. Her family always knew they could count on her love, warmth, and kindness.
With family roots in Gays River, Nova Scotia, Ruth was born in Fort Erie, the cherished daughter of the late Vincent and Marietta (“Meta”) Stamp. She was predeceased by her dear sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mavis and George Ternent, and is lovingly remembered by brothers and sisters-in-law Sydney and Marlene Kenmir and Gordon and Linda Kenmir, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was known for her easy and welcoming smile and her ability to make everyone around her feel comfortable. Ruth loved a quiet evening with a spot of Tia Maria, spent countless hours playing cribbage, and found joy in the simple pleasures of family life.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many staff members at Henley House for their exceptional care and compassion. A special note of gratitude goes to Amanda Burns for her extraordinary dedication and personal care for Ruth at home and at Henley House.
In her own words, Ruth would like to be remembered as: Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, No Regrets—a perfect reflection of her life lived in service to her family and filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Ruth’s legacy of kindness, strength, and love will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
The family will receive friends at the MORSE & SON EVENT CENTRE, 5929 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. A service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 12 noon. Burial to follow in Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara or to Parkinson’s Canada in Ruth’s memory.
