HUNTER, ROBERT JOHN “BOB” Bob passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, in his 94th year. The world was unfolding quite nicely until a recent fall. He will be dearly missed by his children, Rosemary (Grant) and Paul (Bonnie); and grandchildren, Alistair, Jennifer and Robert (Adele). Bob was the only child of Robert and Gladys Hunter (nee Cross) of Toronto. He was predeceased by his wife, Aldene. Bob graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in Psychology/Philosophy and later earned a M.Ed. from the University of Ottawa. The family lived in different regions of Ontario, as Bob’s career path led from teaching business math to Head of Guidance, Vice-Principal, Curriculum Consultant for northern schools, and ultimately a senior role with the Ontario Ministry of Education. When he retired, he began a consulting business, setting up schools in Malaysia and Hong Kong to conform to Canadian curriculum and meet entrance requirements for Canadian universities. This entailed travel to far-off destinations, and entertaining at home. Bob and Aldene also enjoyed a number of international cruises and trips within Canada, particularly to the east coast. Of special note, their journey to the Holy Land fulfilled a life-long desire because of their many years of service to the United Church of Canada. Bob was an Elder and assisted in many other areas as well. In the course of time, they retired to the southwestern Ontario countryside near Lake Erie. Bob was intellectually curious and full of initiative. All things were possible. Ambitious family vacations are gratefully remembered. When Aldene achieved her dream of obtaining her private pilot’s license, Bob decided he’d better learn to fly too! He hosted many convivial family occasions, including their 50th and 60th wedding anniversary celebrations and a combined 80th birthday party. Bob was a Life Member of Clan Hunter of Hunterston Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland. Bob has fulfilled the Clan motto with honour: “Cursum Perficio” (I will complete the course). We thank the staff of McCowan Retirement Residence and Scarborough General Hospital for their wonderful care and assistance in Bob’s last days. An interment service will be held in the spring at Scarborough Bluffs United Church Cemetery. Donations to the United Church of Canada could be made if desired.
