Our hearts are heavy. Our dear and gentle Richard has passed away at Oak Ridges Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. Surrounded by our love and survived by his wife of 42 years (Mary Catherine), his son (Christopher) and loving daughter-in-law (CeLynn). Over the last 6 years, Richard’s two most important people in his life were his grandkids. Abigail Marie and Luke Robert. His face lit up when he saw them, even in his last days.
Richard leaves behind his sister Margaret (Edward), Terry, Mercedes, and Michael (Antoinette). He is predeceased by his parents, Simeon & Antoinette, his brothers, Sam (Jeannie), Frank (Miriam), and his sister Benny (Joe). Loved dearly by his many nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter, Daria.
He will be missed by his in-laws and close friends of 40+ years in Jamie (Nora), Lawrence (Carrie) and Terry.
Richard was born in Egypt during WWII and raised in Malta, as his father was an active-duty member of the British Armed Forces. At the age of 18, he bravely set out on his own to make a life for himself in Canada. And what a life that became. He soon developed his lifelong love of golf and travel. Many of those early trips were shared with his friend of 52 years, John McDonald, laughing, all while searching for lost golf balls. His legacy of kindness, humour and a love of golf will carry on for generations of Bowmans to come.
We will miss you, but we will be alright. It’s time for you to rest now. Time to Say Goodbye.
Friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME for memorial visitation on Friday October 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial Service will take place Saturday October 26th at 12:00 noon with visitation one hour prior, reception to follow the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory or Richard to Oak Ridges Hospice.
