WILSON, Nora
1933 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving mother and sister, devoted spouse, doting grandmother and great grandmother and cherished friend.
Nora Carine (McKee) Wilson peacefully slipped away in the early morning of January 30, 2024, at the age of 90, at the Temiskaming Lodge. She was born on March 11, 1933, to her parents William and Christena McKee, and spent her life in the Tri-Towns alongside her 8 siblings: Kay McKee, Ann (McKee) Shortt, Barbara (McKee) Honsberger, Margaret (McKee) Sharp, William McKee, Donald McKee, Neil McKee, and Anderson McKee.
On June 4th, 1949, Nora married the love of her life, Norman Wilson. Their union was blessed with 8 children, and throughout the years, their home became a haven for several foster children whose names are eternally cherished in the hearts of the Wilson family.
Nora led a long and fulfilled life. While raising her children, she worked at the New Liskeard Library and then at The Auberge bakery doing what she loved. She then worked in a local Confectionary store for a number of years and eventually bought and ran the store. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, she was a familiar figure in the community, and she was Grandma Nora to so many children and people. After her own children were grown and gone, she baby-sat for several families, always thinking of and treating them as her own grandchildren.
Nora loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious treats. Whether it was homemade bread for her family, pies for neighbours or special requests like “Deb’s Jammies” for close friends, her oven was always on, and her apron always covered in flour.
In addition to her role as devoted mother and wife, Nora was an active and cherished member of St. Paul’s United Church. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident in her selfless contributions and unwavering dedication. Nora’s involvement in St. Paul’s extended beyond attending services. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, whether it was preparing sandwiches or desserts for church luncheons or volunteering at various church functions. Her culinary skills and warm personality made her a staple at these events, bringing joy and a sense of community to those she served. Even when faced with the challenge of losing her sight, Nora’s indomitable spirit shone through. Rather than allowing it to hinder her, she found innovative ways to continue contributing to the church community she held dear. Her resilience and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Norman Wilson, her parents William and Christena McKee, her eight siblings, her son James Irvin Wilson and son-in-law John Allan MacVeigh. Nora leaves behind a legacy of love and a profound impact on the lives of the people she touched. She is survived by her children: Christena Stevens (Joe), Marilyn MacVeigh, Katherine Caza (Raymond), Mark Wilson (Brenda), Neil Wilson (Cindy), David Wilson (Carol), Steven Wilson (Donna), Janet (Laronde) Wilson, 34 cherished grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and many treasured friends.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Temiskaming Lodge Resident Activities, 144 Drive-in Theatre Rd, Temiskaming Shores, ON, P0J 1P0 or to St. Paul’s United Church 70 Wellington St N, New Liskeard, P0J 1P0
Special thanks to the Dr. Davies and Fabienne Blaine and the nurses at the Temiskaming Lodge who provided invaluable care to Nora in her last few months.
A visitation will take place at St. Paul’s United Church, 70 Wellington St. North, New Liskeard, ON on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11 AM – 1 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM at St. Paul’s United Church, officiated by Elaine Lush. Nora will be laid to rest at the Pioneer Cemetery in New Liskeard at a later date.
The void left by Nora’s absence will be deeply felt, but the memories of her love and kindness will serve as a source of comfort. As family and friends reflect on the beautiful moments shared with Nora, they will find solace in the enduring impact of her legacy. In celebrating her life, they honour the remarkable woman who graced their lives with love, grace, intellect, and kindness.
