Rev. Peter Murphy Obituary
Father Peter H. Murphy passed away at The Windsor Retirement Residence in Amherstview, on Sunday, February 25, 2024 in his 94th year. Predeceased by his brother, Patrick, by his sisters, Lucy Holmgren (late Harry) and Justina Murphy, and by his parent, Martin Murphy and Elizabeth Carty. He is survived by his sister, Mary Houston (late Melvin) of Calgary and several nieces and nephews. Father Peter was born in Elgin, Ontario, on August 5, 1930, and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 26, 1957 in a memorable ceremony at the Kingston Community Centre. He has been a devoted and dedicated priest for 67 years serving in many parishes in the Kingston Archdiocese: St. Carthagh’s, Tweed, (1957-61), St. Michael’s, Belleville, (1961-63), St. John’s, Flinton (1963-70), Sacred Heart of Mary, Madoc (1970-83), St. Mary’s, Carleton Place (1983-88), Annunciation Parish, Enterprise (1988-2008). He retired to Napanee (2008-23) where he continued to do priestly service to support the priests and parish of St. Patrick. A vigil will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 179 West Street in Napanee on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m, with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s on Friday, March 1 at 11:00 a.m, with visitation from 10 – 10:45 am. Interment takes place at St. Columbanus Cemetery in Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Priest Retirement Fund of the Archdiocese of Kingston. In the care of Hannah Funeral Home, in Napanee (613-354-3341).
