It is with deep sorrow that the family of Shanta De Abreu announces her passing on December 25th, 2023, at Sunnybrook Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Shanta, a beloved Mother, Grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, will be profoundly missed. Her vibrant and joyful nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Sydney, Shanta is survived by her adoring children, sons Kenneth (Rachel) and Kevin (Antoinette), as well as her two cherished grandchildren, Kaleb and Marcus. She leaves behind nieces Alia and Angelita, nephews Domenic and Martin, brothers Paul, Peter, and Andrew, and sisters Gini and Nandali, along with numerous friends.
Shanta’s enduring legacy lies in her exuberant personality and deep love for family gatherings and holidays. Despite being an exceptional cook, she never sought recognition for her culinary talents.
Rest peacefully with the angels, Mom, also affectionately known as Grandma and Big Sis.
A visitation to celebrate Shanta’s life will be held on Tuesday January 2nd, 2024, between 4-8 pm at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W). A special Funeral Mass to be held at St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church, 1290 McBride Ave., Mississauga, on January 3rd, at 10 am, followed by a reception in the church hall.
A private family interment will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
