Obituary of Philip Mason
Philip Joseph Mason passed away on August 13, 2024, at the age of 73, in North York, Ontario, Canada, after dedicating his life to family, faith, and community. Born on August 8, 1951, in Macca Tree, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Nathaniel and Viola Cinderella Mason, he lived a life full of love and service.
Philip is survived by his cherished siblings: Ruth, Cherry, Barry, Loxley, Paulette, June, Joylyn, and Hopeton, along with many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews who filled his heart with joy. His love for family was a guiding light throughout his life.
He worked at the Registration Office in Spanish Town, Jamaica, where his warm personality endeared him to colleagues and the local community. Philip’s commitment to his faith shone brightly through his active roles at St. Ann’s, Irish Pen, and Spanish Town churches within the Seventh-day Adventist community. At Irish Pen, he spent over ten years as a Colporter and leader in ministry, sharing Christian literature with enthusiasm and devotion.
Philip’s love for music flourished at Willowdale Church in North York, where he was part of a gospel singing group, expressing himself through song, poetry, and spoken word performances. His wonderful sense of humor and knack for bringing joy to those around him will be dearly missed.
A man of deep faith, Philip illustrated his spiritual connection through daily prayer and scripture reading. He often reminded us, “The Lord will not give us more than we can bear,” embracing life’s challenges with love and laughter. Let us honor his memory by sharing joy and faith in our own lives, just as he always did.
