During the summer of 1965, Takis (Psele) Labrakos arrived alone to Toronto in search of a better life, a familiar story to many.
A tall, strapping man, Takis (Psele) became known for his strong sense of personal integrity and his dash of stubborn pride. Born on September 4, 1947, in the village Anogia, a small town in the province of Lakonias, Greece, Takis’ (Psele’s) farmer roots never left him. Indeed he became known as the “fruit whisperer” for his uncanny ability to pick the best watermelon, peaches, and plums – a harvest he shared with anyone he loved.
During his 77 years on this earth, Takis earned the respect of his colleagues: he worked hard, never missed a day, and offered his expertise to anyone who wished to accept it. He had a playful, mischievous spirit, which served him well. He will be remembered for his distinct sense of humor and his ever, well-groomed mustache.
Known fondly as the bringer of bougatsa, the sharer of chocolate, and as Papppou, Takis Labrakos is survived by his two children, Emily (Jorge), and John (Ntina), and his four grandchildren Sebastian, Anastasia, Victor, and Alexandros.
