MEECHAM, Barbara Jane (née Nissen) – 2 June 1962 — 31 May 2024
Barbara Jane (Nissen) Meecham passed away at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa on May 31, 2024.
She leaves behind her husband, Wayne and her three children, Jeffrey Snider (Jeffrey Crawford), Kyle Snider (Dea), Marika Galea, and her step daughter Laurie Meecham (Kevin Jones).
Barbara was a proud Oma to Marlee and sister to Andrea, Sue and Sasha.
Born in Stamford, UK to Joy (Champagnie) Atkinson (Horace) and Hartmut Nissen (Sonia), Barbara spent her early childhood years in Germany and Jamaica before immigrating to Canada.
She graduated from Thornlea Secondary School and Seneca College, studying law enforcement before she embarked on a long and successful career as a regional operations and sales support manager at London Life (later Freedom 55 Financial). Barbara continued to learn and add designations to her nameplate over the course of her career (FLMI, ACS, AIAA, AIRC, ARA, ASRI), and she continued to enjoy the friendship of many of her colleagues into her retirement.
She cherished her pets Jacqui, Matilda, Bella and Penny.
She will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends, and remembered for her quick wit, endless sense of humour and kindness.
Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Durham Outlook or Lakeridge Health Foundation.
