It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmela Puntillo (née Maida), who left us peacefully at the age of 85 on October 20, 2024.
Born on July 7, 1939, in San Fili, Cosenza, Italy, Carmela grew up in a close-knit family in her beloved hometown. In the 1960s, she met and married the love of her life, Benito Puntillo, and together they embarked on a new adventure, moving to Canada to start a family and build a future.
Carmela was a devoted mother to her daughter, Giuseppina (Pina), who lovingly cared for her in her later years. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, all while nurturing her deep passion for cooking and baking. Her kitchen was a haven of delicious meals and sweet treats, always shared with the people she cherished most. Carmela took great joy in spending time with her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, her many nieces and nephews, and friends.
After the passing of her beloved Benito, Carmela found comfort and companionship in the home of Pina and her husband, Peter Fragnelli. She delighted in the role of grandmother, helping to care for her grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah, and watching them grow brought her immense happiness. Carmela’s life was one of love, hard work, and dedication to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of warmth, kindness, and her unforgettable meals will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Carmela is survived by her daughter Pina, son-in-law Peter, grandchildren Nicholas and Sarah, and her extended family in both Canada and Italy.

Visitations will take place at the Vescio Funeral Home Woodbridge Chapel (8101 Weston Rd. 905-850-3332) on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024, from 3-9 p.m.
The Chapel Service will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Vescio Funeral Home – Woodbridge Chapel. (8101 Weston Rd., north of Hwy 7.). Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery (on Hwy 27, south of Hwy 7)
