William Warren Renkema (62) died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024. Bill was the son of Willem Renkema (deceased 2001), and Muriel Fredrickson (Keith). Devoted Father to his children Taylor and Adam; and ‘Pops’ to his son-in-law Glen Rickerby; and adoring grandfather to Gabriella. Bill was a caring older Brother to sisters Geesje (Patrick), Theresa (Larry), and Lee Anne (Sam). Affectionately known as ‘Uncle Billy’ to many nieces and nephews.
William was Born in Brockville, and spent much of his life here. He spent his youth in Frankville working on his grandfather’s farm with his cousins. Bill’s career created many opportunities for travel in Canada and the US and he made friends wherever he went. He spent much of his free time in his woodworking shop, making furniture and kitchenware for friends and family.
He enjoyed time with friends [especially the Fabulous Four] more than anything, especially at his home which he took great pride in as a space for company. He was always willing to help out in any way he could and participated in many community improvement efforts. He was a member of the stewardship council for Brockville for a time and an avid member of Ducks Unlimited. Part of his efforts were keeping waterways clean and the rebuilding of the peregrine falcon population and habitat in North America. Bill believed any day on the lake was a good day, especially fishing on Upper Beverly or Charleston Lake.
Bill came out of retirement to serve a most noble profession: bartending. He spent his final years enjoying retirement with his friends and family, listening to his record collection, and spending extensive time on the patio BBQing for company. He maintained his garden for many years resulting in enough spaghetti sauce to feed the city of Brockville. His greatest pride was watching his grandchild Gabriella grow and spent as much time with her as he could.
Family and friends are invited to the Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn, 2451 Country Road 15, Maitland, on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024 from 11 am – 12 noon when the service will follow in the chapel.
