On November 21, 2024, at University Hospital, Shirley Minty (née Cooper), 94, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Jack (May 1993), and her son, Ian (July 2024). She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter Janice Richmond, her husband Neil, and her son John Minty. She was a loving grandmother to Beth Richmond, Steve, and his wife Allie Richmond and was tickled to be G.G. to Etta and Case. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Baron, and her sister-in-law, Alice Minty. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Eagleson, and her brother-in-law, Bruce Minty. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from the Sarnia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 at the top of her class and worked there for many years. Once a nurse, always a nurse, even during her last days in hospital.
The family would like to thank The Manor Retirement Home staff in London for their excellent care and compassion over the past few months. Also, many thanks to the staff on the 6th-floor medicine unit and Dr. Berry and the palliative care team at University Hospital for their outstanding care in the last couple of weeks of Mom’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of London, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or the MS Society.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
