Garry Scarr, 76, of London, Ontario, died April 25, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospice of London. He was born on January 12, 1948, to Mervyn and Mollie Scarr in Parry Sound, Ontario.
He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Scarr (Shelswell) on April 8, 1972, and they had 2 children, Dawne and Sean.
Garry grew up in the former town of Burwash of which we’ve heard many stories. He attended Laurentian University and went on to travel the world with Brenda. He spent his career in food services, retiring from Summit Foods in 2014. While working at Summit he enjoyed playing in their baseball league every summer and ran in the 24hr relay.
He was an avid golfer, occasional antiques dealer, excellent chef, and a huge London Knights fan. He loved taking his dogs to agility. Every summer Garry and Brenda spent time up north at their favourite cabin, and in winter they looked forward to their Portugal trip. He had a great sense of humour, was full of knowledge, and rarely complained about anything.
Garry is survived by wife Brenda Scarr, daughter Dawne (Matt) Dopp, son Sean (Jamie) Scarr, grandsons Bradley and Bentley Dopp, brother Roger (Jan) Scarr, sister Debbie (Frank) Chiappetta, and dog Stryder.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mervyn and Molly Scarr, and brother Glenn Scarr.
Garry did not wish to have a funeral. Memorials or donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, where we had the chance for a few more laughs, hockey games and time with friends and family (including Stryder). www.sjhospicelondon.com/gifts-in-memoriam
