Peacefully, with family at her side, in the Janet MacDonell Pavilion of the Cornwall Community Hospital in Cornwall, Ontario, on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the age of 83 years. Beloved sister of Sandra (the late Lorne Lawson), Jean (Malcolm Fraser), Gail (Gord MacRae), Ian, Glendon (Sheila), Huntly (Christine), Hubert (Susan) and Rhona (Bruce Munro). Devoted and loving aunt to her twenty-seven nieces and nephews and constant friend. Pre-deceased by her parents, Allan Edward and Cecilia McDonell, and by her brother Alanson (Nora). Throughout her life, Glenda modeled her unwavering belief in the inherent goodness in personal responsibility, in commitment to the well-being of others, and in the beauty of doing one’s best. In her work as a Catholic teacher, Physical Education consultant and well-respected principal at Prince of Peace, St. Elizabeth and St. Thomas More Schools in Ottawa, Glenda made a difference in the lives of her students and colleagues through her gestures and words of care, her high standards, her sense of humour and sense of style. In her twenty-seven years of retirement, she lived her belief in keeping alive the values and contributions of Scottish immigrants and their descendants in Glengarry County as a Founding and Honorary Member of the Friends of the (St. Raphael’s) Ruins, as Clan Donald Canada High Commissioner (2008-2015), and as an active supporter and 2023 inductee in the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame.
