Theresa Gertrude O’Donnell (Brown)
September 30, 1933 – July 23, 2024
With a life of love and joy now complete, Theresa O’Donnell passed away on July 23, 2024 surrounded by family.
The youngest child of Edward and Bertha Brown, Theresa was born and raised in Arthur Ontario. She loved the outdoors, horses, family and, as we know, Theresa took pride to ensure that the garden at every home she lived in was full of colour and fragrance. Pink roses were Theresa’s favorite flower.
Theresa had many roles in life. She was a devoted wife of 67 years to Laverne O’Donnell, and a model of strength, resilience and compassion in his final journey. To her seven daughters, Mary Anne Moser (Brian), Marg Wade, Rose Tremblay (Levis), Kathy Stauffer (Tim), Monica Kuzyk (John), Shirley Speakman (Greg) and Susan Coulter (Jeff), Theresa was teacher, mentor, healer and protector. Theresa worked in education, however the lessons instilled in her daughters most often occurred at the dinner table, in the family station wagon, or in the bustle of the early morning getting the family ready to start the day. These teachings were of love, care for others, and patience in all things. She spoke often of the importance of finding courage in times of adversity, living lives of gratitude and a reminder that nothing is resolved in anger, so be kind to one another. A nighttime prayer with Mom at the bedside, settled the mind, and eased any of the burdens of the day.
To her eleven grandchildren, Kim Moser, Heather Leveille (Christian), Greg Moser (Jennifer), Tom Wade (Carly), Elizabeth Kuzyk (Adam) Peter Kuzyk (Paige), Emilie Tremblay, Ben Stauffer (Sara) and Madeline Stauffer, Luke Watson, Nicole Watson (Brandon), Theresa formed lasting bonds with each of them. On difficult days, her grandchild never hesitated to call Grandma, she just knew how to make things better. As they got older, Theresa provided her special brand of wisdom when it came to their education and careers. Her grandchildren are forever grateful for her love, support, and those amazing oatmeal cookies, that no one in the family can replicate. Grandma instilled the importance life-long learning, having adventures, doing work of value, and at each parting they were reminded: “I love you, go to Mass and God bless.”
Theresa continued to build bonds of love with her great grandchildren believing that these remarkable gifts were destined to change this world. Jakob Leveille, Brady and Brooks Moser, Noah and Nathan Wade, and Tessa Watson, never doubt that Great Grandma will be with you each day in love. In her new role as guardian angel, she will hear you in every prayer, every tear and most often in your laughter.
A Mass celebrating Theresa’s life will be held on Monday July 29, 2024 at 10 am at St. Marks Catholic Church (55 Driftwood Dr, Kitchener, Ontario). Interment to follow at Memory Gardens (2723 Victoria St N, Breslau, Ontario).
Our family wishes to thank all those who cared for our mother in her final days. To the selfless staff at Lanark, thank you so much for the care and comfort you provided our Mom .
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Kitchener Waterloo (cards available at the funeral home).
“God find the softest pillow to lay her head upon, place a kiss upon her cheek and tell her who its from. Put your loving arms around her, in an never ending hug. Tell her that we miss her and give her all our love.”
