Ivan Glibota
September 24, 1949 – September 30, 2023
Ivan Glibota passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, September 30, 2023, with the love of his family surrounding him.
Ivan was born in Slivno, Croatia in 1949 to Bozidar and Ruza. The youngest of 9 children, Ivan studied in Makarska, Croatia, found temporary work in Germany and then immigrated to Kitchener, Ontario in 1970. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Ana, in 1974.
A proud Canadian and Croatian, Ivan started a successful drywall company and remained in that field for 40 years. He was well known in the Croatian community where he was an active member of the Holy Family Croatian Roman Catholic Parish and Hrvatski Dom.
In his spare time, Ivan was a passionate sports fan, cheering on his kids and grandchildren in soccer, hockey and dance. Ivan also participated in many bocce tournaments and weekend games. Always with a great sense of humour, he also enjoyed trying to “solve the world problems” with his friends, while enjoying coffee at the local Tim Horton’s. Ivan loved travelling with his wife while visiting Croatia and going on many road trips across Canada and into the United States.
Ivan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ana, as well as their children, Bozidar “John” (Natalie), Anita (Matt) and Danny (Heidi). Dido (“Grandfather”) will be missed by his seven grandchildren, Marina, Ivan, Maggie, Jack, Lukas, Lana and Marcus; as well as his lended grandchildren: Aiden, Charlie and Jack.
Ivan will also be missed by his sister, Ivanka along with Glibota family, Ante (Linda) and Ruzica (Marko) and Kurevija in-laws, Stipo, Drago (Dubravka), Tomo (Sonya), Josie (Al) and Jasna (John) along with numerous extended family members and friends in Canada and Croatia.
Ivan was always so grateful for the care and support from the Oncology nurses and doctors at Grand River Hospital especially Dr. Hube, Dr. Glick, Dr. Lana Tan, Nurse Chantal along with the rest of the palliative homecare team.
Ivan’s family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Parish prayers at 7:30 pm on Wednesday evening.
The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Holy Family Croatian Church, 180 Schweitzer St., Kitchener.

Interment will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery, 1541 Fischer-Hallman Rd., Kitchener followed by a reception at Holy Family Croatian Church Hall.
