Tracey, Donald George
With family by his side, Don passed away peacefully into the arms of God at St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of Audrey (nee Henning) for over 72 years. Loving father of Linda Janke (Walter), Barbara Tracey-Poll (Dale) and Donna Bender (Bob). Proud Grandpa of Noel and Annalee Bender. Don was the last surviving child of the 16 children born to Wilhelmina and Joseph Tracey. Survived by brothers-in-law Larry Ertel, Paul Michalski and Robert Henning (Joanna). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Don was a very supportive husband and devoted father and grandfather.
He enjoyed many hobbies through the years, including camping, time at the family cottage outside Goderich, golfing, long walks and reading. Don was artistic – he enjoyed painting sceneries and playing piano, especially music from the 30’s and 40’s. He enjoyed travel to Europe, Britain and the Caribbean. For the last year and a half, Don resided at the Village at University Gates, where he was well cared for. Don was so very loved and will be sadly missed by all his family. He was a gentle soul with a beautiful smile for everyone.
A gathering to celebrate Don’s Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home (519) 749-8467. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated (cards available at the funeral home).
