How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:1-2
In the early morning hours of August 21, 2024, the Good Shepherd gently gathered to himself, Arie Johannes Sluys, at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of Linda Sluys for 64 years. Cherished and devoted father of Bonnie & Brad Tinklenberg, Debbie & Stuart Brink, Bill & Debbi Sluys, Bob and Michele Sluys, Charlene Sluys, Stacey & Henry Noordam, Josh & Fallan Sluys.
Adored by his 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren (predeceased by Denver and Lane), and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Brother to Mary & John VanderLeeuw, Bill & Hetty Sluys, Ted & Lena Sluys, Matt & (late RuthAnne) Sluys, Lena and Kees Schenk, and Alice & (late Alfert) Vanderlaan. Brother-in-law to late Tom & late Corrie Koopman, late Jannie & late Arie Burggraaf, late Pearl & late Martin Rintjema, late Bert & Rini Koopman, Diane & Nick Zuidema, Ray Koopman, and Bill & Wilma Koopman. Fondly remembered by many neices, nephews, and friends.
Dad was created with wonderful gifts, and he used them passionately and freely to serve the Lord and his family. He excelled at carpentry, picking up a hammer at the young age of 14 and not laying it down until into his eighties. As a carpenter, he gratefully provided for his wife and 7 children, and immensely enjoyed the pastime for years after retirement. His attention to detail, patience for it’s tedious nature, and the love of a challenge made finish carpentry his craft. However, if he loved to swing a hammer, he loved to sing even more. His was a rich, powerful tenor voice. He gave freely of this gift as he lent his voice to many choirs, as a soloist and in his church pew. His joy was to make melody and sing of his Saviour. By grace, he loved his wife faithfully, his children diligently and served the church in the role of elder and deacon for many years. He also sat on various committees, both in the church and the Christian School Community. He knew he was an imperfect man, and put his hope in the finished work of the cross, knowing that the free gift of salvation offered there was his and that his firm inheritance was eternal life
