Mary Quenneville Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Quenneville on February 20 at her residence in Kingston at the age of 102 years. She is survived by her daughters Wilma Hobson and Sheila Quenneville.
Mary came to Canada from Scotland in 1946, following a Canadian soldier, Raphael Quenneville, who she met at a hockey game in Paisley. They were married for 71 years before his death in 2017.
The YWCA had special programs for War Brides to introduce them to Canada, and the Y became an important part of her life, leading to an Award of Distinction for the part she played in establishing the Y building where it is today.
Mary was a Worthy Matron of the Frontenac Chapter of the Eastern Star and she and Ray were avid Scottish Country Dancers. Her gardens were colourful and lovingly tended and were her pride and joy. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Kingston from shortly after her arrival in Canada.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the James Reid Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston, ON from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Please enter through the doors at the back of the building.
