It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of George Zakos at KGH.
George was predeceased by his mother, Audrey, father, Nicholas and brother, Jim. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce, son, David (Sharon), grandchildren, Cory (Amanda), Angela (Chris), great granddaughter, Ava, sister Elaine, sister-in-law Mollie, as well as nieces, cousins and friends.
George was a dedicated Alcan employee for his entire working life. During that time, especially in his retirement, he enjoyed being with family and friends at his cottage, on the St. Lawrence River. He also loved to travel. He and Joyce traveled the world and had the opportunity to visit every continent except Africa.
Heartbroken doesn’t begin to cover it. George, your kindness was like a light that never flickered, your thoughtfulness, a gift to many. Your sense of humour could put a smile on any face, even on the gloomiest day. We’ll never forget the joy and laughter you brought to our lives. Our world is a little less bright without you.
We are grateful for the exceptional kindness and outstanding care that George received at K.G.H. We send special thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff of the Cardiac Sciences Unit for their professional expertise and compassion.
In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross (donate here) or the Kingston Humane Society (donate here).
