Wever, Margaret Mary
Margaret “Maggie” Wever was born in Sarnia, Ontario on June 9, 1962. Maggie was one of ten children born to Joe (Johannes N. Wever) and Trudy (Geertruida M. Damen-Wever). Maggie attended St. Patrick’s H.S. in Sarnia and later attended Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ontario. After college, Maggie was drawn to the great outdoors so she traveled to western Canada and tried her hand at various outdoor work adventures. She returned to Ontario for a short period of time and worked as a residential supervisor for developmentally delayed adults at a group home in Arnprior, Ontario. Maggie felt compelled to return west and eventually settled down in Calgary where she worked at the Calgary Convention Centre and then as a business analyst in the telecommunications industry, mainly for Telus.
Maggie’s loves included her dogs and her flower gardens. Most mornings, Maggie could be seen walking along the Bow River with her dogs and a cup of coffee in her hand. Due to health issues that required family support, Maggie was forced to return to Ontario in 2020. Maggie was eventually admitted to Trillium Court LTC in Kincardine. She received exceptional care for which her family is extremely grateful, until her death on September 1, 2024.
Maggie is survived by her siblings, Matt (Marcia) Wever, John Wever, Joe (Kathy) Wever, Mary Ann (David) Shaule, Mary Alice Wever, Robert (Julianne) Wever as well as several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents, as well as siblings Jack (2021), Barry (2015) and Catherine (2001).
The Wever family would like to acknowledge Maggie’s wonderful college friend, Jayne Dougall-Bertling who stepped in numerous times to assist Maggie when family where unable. In addition, special thanks to Maggie’s past Telus co-workers Noelle and Ivy who would send Maggie her favourite treats. Special consideration to Maggie’s neighbours of 10A St. N.W., Calgary who were like family to her.
A celebration of life will be held at Maggie’s beloved Kensington Pub, 207 10A St. NW, Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, September 29th, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm.
Maggie’s final resting place will be at Queen Cemetery, 3219 4th St. NW, Calgary, in their Scattering Gardens. A commemorative plaque will be mounted on their memorial wall.
Memorial donations would be appreciated to any local Alzheimer’s Society, Calgary Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
