Thelma was born in Montreal on October 18,1937. Her early childhood was in Longueil, Quebec. She moved to the hamlet of Val des Bois Quebec as a young girl. In her late teens Thelma moved to Wiggin’s Mills New Brunswick for a few years and then to Longueil where she met Charles, and they began their life together. She worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia until 1965. Due to her strong accounting skills, Thelma continued to work part time for a couple more years. In 1967 Tilly and Charlie moved to St. Basile le Grand. It was there that they raised their family until 1986. 8 Des Bouleaux was a haven for extended family and friends alike. Tilly’s door was always open to anyone who need a cup of coffee, friendly ear and/or a delicious meal.
Thelma loved music. All music. However, Country music was where her soared. Thelma also loved to read. Novels, Readers Digest, Magazines. In 1994 Thelma and Charles settled in Kemptville Ontario to retire in their little piece of heaven. Tilly promised herself that she would dedicate 15 years to volunteering at the local Salvation Army. She remained for 20 years. Pelton Road became a magical place for all that loved her. Everyone and anyone were made to feel welcome. A setting of love and laughter. Her love knew no boundaries, as did our love for Thelma Joyce McGaw.
