John passed away, in his favourite spot at home, on Wednesday, the 5th of June, 2024, after a long and tenacious fight against cancer. Predeceased by his mother Margaret in 2019, he leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Kate; sister, Lisa (Jerry); father, John; and his much beloved niece Danielle (Hrvoje), nephews Joshua (Andrea) and Aaron (Elaine), as well as his great nieces and nephews Luka, Arwyn, Arya, Tristan, Noah, Florence and Dorothy, all of whom he adored.
Born in Neath, Wales in the first month of 1960, John immigrated to Canada with his parents and young sister in early 1967. He soon became a citizen and embraced all things Canadian, particularly hockey. He was an immediate and lifelong devoted Leafs fan and a passionate ball hockey goalie in the Georgetown senior men’s league for several years. John had excelled at darts, playing in several leagues and tournaments in the Toronto area. He also loved golfing, canoeing, table tennis, and was an enthusiastic (if often disappointed) fan of the Jays, Raptors, Argonauts, and Buffalo Bills. Other passions included manual transmissions, building decks and sheds and other home projects, fine wine and whiskeys, and craft beers.
After graduating from Sheridan College, John began a career with Procter & Gamble that would last for 38 years, until his death. He was passionately proud of his work and of his colleagues, and his devotion to them gave him the strength and determination to battle on for months beyond his prognosis. We would like to thank everyone at P&G for their incredible kindness, compassion, and support throughout his long journey.
We will remember John’s unique and booming laugh. He was curious about everyone, and generously lent his lend tools, advice, or assistance to all who needed them. His gregarious nature, even while ill or recovering from surgeries, brought together the “DHH” gang (you know who you are) and enriched our entire neighbourhood. He will be missed. In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private cremation, with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the UNH Foundation, or your choice of charity engaged in the continuing fight against cancer.
