It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Norma Arnold (nee Burk) went to be with the Lord and the love of her life, Colman Arnold, on September 21, 2024 at the age of 88.
Norma was born in Dorset, Ontario to Elsie (nee Avery) and Earl Burk on January 19, 1936 where she was raised above the store belonging to her father and uncle, with two older sisters who enjoyed spoiling their little sister, Betty Yates (nee Burk) and Evelyn Gouldie (nee Burk). She loved Sunday School Picnics, Church outdoors and singing in the choir, where she started to sing for weddings. When younger, Norma referred to herself as a tomboy because she enjoyed sprts including skating, swimming, canoeing and baseball. She especially enjoyed going to hockey games with her dad. Norma spent her summers on the Lake of Bays on the beach. She went to work at the Timber Trail Inn in Algonquin Park.
At seventeen she met the man that she was to grow old with. She fell instantly in love with Colman Arnold who predeceased Norma in 2022. They were married in 1953 and had five children. Norma’s passions were the Lord and her family. It was her pleasure to be a homemaker and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making meals for her loved ones but Christmas was her favourite time of the year, she looked forward to it all year round.
Norma and her family became members of the Pentecostal Church where they raised their family. They became Sunday school teachers, crusader leaders, board members and caretakers of the church. The people at the church, their friends, became their second family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her five children, Pam (Jim) Allen, James Arnold, Karen Arnold, Peter Arnold and Kimberley Allen. Six grandchildren, Shane Gallant, Meadow Allen, Kara-Lee Gallant, Joel Arnold, Mackenzie Allen and Skylar Arnold and her six great-grandchildren Cole Gallant, Brandon Gallant, Owen Gallant, Jonas Gallant, Cain Arnold and Vaeda Arnold. Her grandbabies were very precious to her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Bethel Huntsville at 11:00 a.m. Norma will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband following the service at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Grassmere, Ontario. The reception will follow the interment back at church. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice in Norma’s memory. Livestreaming will be available for those unable to attend the funeral service and can be accessed in the service section.
