Virginia Rose Corbiere (nee Osawanimiki), 84, a member of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, passed away on August 13, 2024.
Rose was born on May 9, 1940, on Manitoulin Island. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees from Laurentian University. Professionally, she was a medical nurse, social worker, and counsellor in Sudbury. Rose raised her family in Farmdale Village, in Hanmer, Ontario.
She is survived by her son, Joshua Corbiere (Jodie-Lynn) and her grandchildren Josh Corbiere and Bode Waddilove-Corbiere. She is predeceased by her sons, David Victor (Sonny) Corbiere, Michael Patrick Corbiere, and Darrell Robert Corbiere.
Rose was known for her dry sense of humor and a love for reading. She was passionate about education and challenged herself throughout her life. Her friends and family will always remember her feisty nature, her strong views and that she always carried herself with grace.
According to Rose’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
