Peacefully surrounded by family at The Wellington Nursing Home on September 11, 2024, in her 89th year. Dear wife of Aldo DiPietro for 65 years. Loving mother of Massimo (Lynda) DiPietro, Lucy (Dave) Ciancone, and Paula (Logan) Connolly. Proud nonna of Aaron (Kylie), Angie, Luisa, Daniel (Jennifer), Steven (Maddie) and Jake, our heavenly Angel (2023). Cherished bisnonna of Dylan and Jamison. Predeceased by her siblings Otello (Elia) Colangelo, Guido (Filomena) Colangelo, and Ada (Eugenio) Bevilacqua. Also predeceased by her in-laws Lino Di Pietro, Costantino and Resilde Di Pietro, Gina and Giuseppe Di Prospero. Missing her is sister-in-law Maria Di Pietro. Awaiting in Heaven are her parents Domenico and Paolina Colangelo and parents-in-law Crocifissa and Luigi Di Pietro.
Maria was born in the village of Introdacqua, Italy where she met, fell in love with and married Aldo on December 13, 1959. In 1960 they moved to Hamilton, Ontario for a better life where Maria raised her family and worked many years as a seamstress; her main role as a homemaker is what she cherished most of all. She was a very loving, devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, and wife to her husband and enjoyed cooking, growing a garden, canning, making homemade sausages and wine. Maria enjoyed dancing at many celebrations with family and friends and was part of the Introdacquese Association choir. Many trips throughout her life, back to Italy and to the US to visit relatives and friends were enjoyed and cherished immensely. She has left a lasting legacy with us all, that in spite of many difficulties throughout her life, she always had a smile on her face, a compliment, and a loving word to say. She will be missed profoundly by her family, relatives, friends and all who cared for her with grace, love and dignity at The Wellington Nursing Home for the past 6 years. We will forever be grateful for all their compassion and care.
Visitors will be received at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 620 Rymal Rd E, on Monday September 16 from 9:30 to 11:00am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am. Entombment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum. Donations in memory of Maria can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
