With heavy hearts, the family of Gwen Scott announces her passing on May 10, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Martha Terrett, and her three sisters and their spouses: Violet (Andy) Kotwika, Phyllis (Harley) Walton, and Patricia (Dave) Menard.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her beloved husband, Layton, and her two daughters: Cindy (Rick) Barron and Jennifer (Andrew) Scott. She will be sorely missed by her five grandsons: Scott (Kayla) Barron, Chad (Shannon) Barron, Brodie (Elisa) Barron, Matt (Dana) Scott, and Nick (Sarah) Scott, as well as her eight great-grandchildren: Kinley, Rylin, Hayes, Boone, Ava, Wyatt, Vilho and Aada.
Gwen’s life began in the small community of Thornloe, where she met her soulmate, best friend, and husband of 68 years, Layton. They settled in Temiskaming Shores, building their own homes and filling them with love. Gwen was kind, intelligent, a wonderful cook, and an excellent housekeeper. She was completely devoted to her family. Gwen was always game for anything, following the Barrons around on their hockey excursions and spending summers camping with Jennifer and her family—activities that were her favorites. She was there to listen, console, understand, and remind us that she loved us.
Gwen’s family extends their utmost gratitude to Dr. Currie, the Haileybury Family Health Team, the amazing hospital staff at Temiskaming Hospital who treated her like the Queen she was, her PSW Kaitlyn Suy and RN Rita Leukert who became like family. Special thanks to Mariette, who provided her with a weekly outing and prevented us from having to learn how to put picky black rollers in her hair. Heartfelt thanks also go to all the neighbors who visited, brought treats, and ensured they were thought of and okay throughout the years. There are no words to express our gratitude to John and Shirley Ewanchuck, who have been neighbors on McKelvie Street from the beginning. They have supplied meals hot and ready to eat, shoveled the driveway, cleaned snow off of the car, cut and watered the lawn, and performed many other acts of kindness. Mom spoke of her gratefulness many, many times, and knowing someone else was looking out for them provided the family with some peace.
“If you ever find yourself on the Shores of Lake Temiskaming, please take a seat on her memorial bench by the marina, gaze out at the beautiful scenery, and think about all the things you are grateful for.”
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. If desired, donations to the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. www.temiskamingfoundation.ca. Condolences and memories can be left at wwwbuffamleveille.com
