We are thankful for the life of Sheldon, who passed at Fairvern Nursing Home on October 20, 2023, in his 84th year. Sheldon passed peacefully with his family by his side. Shelly was a loving and devoted husband, stepfather, Papa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Caring husband of Barb. Stepfather of Brian Montross (Jacki), predeceased by stepson Craig Montross (Deb). Proud Papa of Matthew, Grace, and Andrew. Living to mourn their brother-in-law are Jim Graham and Lola Brubacher. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Bella Brubacher, his brothers Claude and Harold Brubacher (Isabelle) and Gerald Brubacher, sisters Grace Waters (Don), Alice McDonald (Robert and Jack), Frances Clappison (Philip), Beatrice Stephenson (Glen) and Pauline Graham.
Shelly was born in Kitchener and was the youngest of 10 children. His family moved to the St. George area, where they owned Orchard Home Farm. Four generations of Brubachers have carried on the tradition.
Shelly, a graduate of University of Western Ontario, was an educator and vice principal for 34 years with the Brant County Board of Education.
After his marriage, he moved to Simcoe, becoming an attendee of Walsh Baptist Church where Barb was the organist. Nine years later, he began his cottage adventures on Muldrew Lake in Gravenhurst as a permanent resident.
Shelly enjoyed boating, puttering around the cottage, constructing decks, and riding his Vespa to and from town. He was a world traveler.
For his first Christmas in Muskoka, Barb gave him a membership to the Gravenhurst Curling Club. This provided an introduction to many new friendships. He was known there for his culinary skills, especially his butter tarts.
Shelley was an avid Maple Leafs and Bluejays supporter. He enjoyed his daily swims at the YMCA.
Shelly was a devoted Christian and member of Calvary Church.
He was a doting husband and a wonderful Papa. He relished spending time at the many activities of his grandkids whether it was baseball games, dance recitals or school events.
Much appreciation goes out to all the caring staff at Fairvern District Nursing Home in Huntsville.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Church in Gravenhurst on Saturday, October 28, 2023, with visitation from 12:00-1:00pm, and service beginning at 1:00pm.
Any donations can be directed to the building fund at Calvary church. (www.calvarygravenhurst.com/give) or the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka (alzheimermuskoka.kindful.com).
