Frederika (Rita) Zorge-
At a grand 93 years young, Rita passed away peacefully in long-term care on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Brampton, Ontario. She is survived by her husband of an equally impressive 71 ½ years, Fred, daughter Pat, her husband Ken, and grandson Alex.
Born in Holland and immigrating to Canada in the early 1950’s, Rita and Fred moved within a few years to Georgetown and spent most of their lives living, working and contributing to this and nearby communities. Whether parent/teacher activities at her daughter’s school, walking for many years as Mrs. Claus in Georgetown’s annual Santa Claus parade, being an inaugural member of the Georgetown Lioness Club where she helmed various positions and fundraising projects for decades, to accumulating an admirable 6,500 volunteer hours at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga in her later years, community service is something she believed in and committed herself to throughout her life.
Rita never met a line dance or craft project she didn’t want to participate in. Her annual home- made Christmas cards are cherished collector’s items among friends and family. She travelled the world, often as part of a group of friends that came together shortly after coming to Canada and held together for over 60 years. She also leaves behind so many relatives, nieces and nephews in Holland, Canada and the US that already miss her greatly.
If there was one gift Rita had, it was her openness to talking to anyone and everyone, finding out how they were and what they were doing, and then remembering to follow up to make sure all was well. Hers was definitely a life well lived.
