With deep sadness we announce the passing of Barb Breckon on Monday, October 30th, surrounded by her family at the Georgetown Hospital.
Barb was the beloved wife of 49 years to John Breckon, loving mother of J.T.(Tracey) and Susan (Daniel) and cherished grandmother of Nora, Jack and Olivia. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Theresa, and her brother, the late John Lee, she will be remembered fondly by her sister Kathy (Brian) Speth, brother Kevin (Linda), and her sister-in-law Denise (John). Her memory will forever reside in the hearts and thoughts of all of her husband John’s family, and her many friends.
Known to be drawn to nursing at an early age, Barb graduated from Blakelock High School in Oakville, was accepted into St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Kingston, and graduated in 1972. Returning to Oakville, she was blessed with a notable career as a registered nurse at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, transitioning between the ICU and cardiology departments until her retirement in 2007.
Barb never wavered from her proud Irish ancestry and always found happiness surrounded by family. She and John enjoyed many travels throughout Europe, Central and North America, but she found particular enjoyment during family trips to “the cottage,” camping, and always when hosting a great many memorable nights on “the Farm”.
Family and friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown this Sunday, November 5th, from 1-2 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. with a reception afterwards in The Trafalgar Room (on site). Memorial contributions to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
