Brown, Samuel Joseph
It is with both sorrow and peace, that we announce the passing of our beloved father Samuel J. Brown (Sammy), on Friday September 13, 2024 in his 76th year. Sam was a two-time cancer survivor. However, when terminal cancer returned this year, he chose to pursue medical assistance in dying with unwavering resolve, embodying dignity and compassion in his final act of courage.
Sam is survived by his dear companion, Ursula Kansy (Annika, Mimi and Hanna); his loving daughters, Carrie Maxwell (Wayne) and Laura Kirk (Gerard); his stepdaughter, Krista Boyd (Shane). He was a cherished grandfather to Alexandra, Justin, Joshua, Meagan, Fischer, Chloe, and Lochlan. Sam is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Richard (Louis), Barbara Munisteri (Joe), and Jennifer Murphy (Bob), along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his father Russell Brown. Sam was a dear friend of Helga Brown & Andy Montgomery. Sam was raised tenderly by his mother Carrie Morreale (pre-deceased) as a north-ender in the city of Hamilton, Ontario. He carried the warmth and resilience of his upbringing throughout his life. A proud retiree from Hamilton Specialty Bar Local 4752 after 30 years of service. Known for his free spirit, witty intellect and hippie heart, Sam was deeply loved and respected in the communities of Hamilton, Owen Sound and Durham. An avid outdoorsman, he loved being active and enjoyed hiking, golf and baseball. A voracious reader with a thirst for literature and history and a captivating storyteller. He had a special affection for all animals, especially his beloved border collies over the years. In retirement, Sam relished country living, had an appreciation for world cuisine and culture, creative writing, music and travelling, especially his time at the ocean in New Hampshire. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his doctor for her compassionate care.
To honour our fathers wishes, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to celebrate Sammys memory privately; go on a hike, help someone in need, make time for loved ones, or donate to the SPCA in his memory. For every note we sing, every cause we champion and every simple joy we embrace, we will honour your loving memory Dad. All our Love, Carrie & Laura
“All my life’s a circle
Sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the nighttime
‘Til the daybreak comes around
All my life’s a circle
But I can’t tell you why
The seasons spinning round again
The years keep rolling by”
